Great South Run
Sunday 22nd October to Monday 23rd October
Despite the best efforts of 'Storm Brian', Claire couldn't be halted in her attempt to complete the 10 miles of the Great South Run in a non-stop 24 hours!.
The storm did mean starting the challenge a day later, but at 10:07am on Sunday morning Claire set off live on Channel 5 and for a brief period was leading the race!. Unfortunately Claire quickly dropped from 1st place to 20000+ but that wasn't going to deter her. With regular stops on the roads and paths to protect the pounding Claire was taking to her wrists, arms and shoulders, Claire and her team walked through the night and into Monday morning.
Claire walked the exact route as everyone else including special permission to go through the Naval Dockyard and past HMS Victory. The halfway point was reached on Sunday evening and was celebrated with a rendition of 'Living on a prayer' which made ITV national news!.
With targets to hit to keep on schedule the night went surprisingly quickly and was helped enormously by the support of the locals who were keeping track of our progress via regular twitter feeds and came to join us at various points throughout the night with hot drinks, burgers and even the odd hot water bottle!.
Luckily, despite a bit of rain in the early afternoon, it did keep away again until the last couple of miles or so and the finish line at 10:03am on the Monday morning was a welcome sight with the locals again coming out to acknowledge another amazing achievement by Claire ... and another £24k raised for the Nicholls Spinal Injury Foundation.
In September 2016 Claire was the first person to complete the Great North Run in a robotic suit and in October 2017 she will
be attempting her next challenge!.
#10in24
On Saturday 21st October Claire will be setting off on what will be her most punishing challenge so far in her robotic suit?. Claire will be attempting to walk the 10 mile Great South Run course in 24 hours ... starting at 10am on Saturday morning and walking through the night to hopefully complete at 10am on Sunday morning. This will eclipse the previous longest distance walked by Claire in a day by nearly four miles!!
The harder the struggle the more glorious the triumph
- and this is so true. If it was easy then it wouldn't be a challenge!.
DUE TO 'STORM BRIAN' DELAYING THE CHALLENGE BY 24 HOURS AND THE FATIGUE FACTOR NOW MAKING ITS PRESENCE FELT, THE RAFFLE DRAW WILL NOW BE MADE OVER THIS WEEKEND AND THE WINNERS SHOWN HERE ONCE COMPLETED.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE.
